Abstract/Sommario: The Education for All (EFA) Global Monitoring Report (GMR) is an annual publication that monitors progress toward a set of targets to which over 160 countries committed themselves in 2000. Every year, it also focuses on a specific theme of particular relevance to achieving the EFA goals. This 10th edition of the Report focuses on the condition of young people, in particular as regard employment and education.

Abstract/Sommario: This paper has been prepared by ETF in collaboration with the UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP), as one of the discussion papers for the Policy Forum on ‘Engaging youth in planning education for social transformation’, to be held in Paris on 16–18 October 2012. It is based on the results of a number of ETF initiatives, including the project on Union for Mediterranean Employability Review and the ETF Transition from School to Work project. This analysis mainly covers the eight Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) countries (Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Lebanon and the occupied Palestinian territory). The paper provides an overview of the main challenges of transition from school to work, and offers reflections to be considered when designing, implementing and revising policies to facilitate youth employment and youth entry into the labour market.

Abstract/Sommario: Il rapporto segna un quarto di secolo di programmi comunitari a favore dei giovani e delle politiche giovanili. Viene proposta una rassegna del pensiero e dei principi che ispirano le iniziative UE per i giovani e si incoraggia il dibattito su come l’animazione giovanile e l’apprendimento non formale possono contribuire all’istruzione in Europa. This publication marks a quarter of a century of EU youth programmes accompanied by EU youth policy. It brings together a range of views and highlights best practices with the aim of stimulating debate about what youth work and non-formal learning can contribute, alongside other sectors, to European education. From diverse viewpoints, it reviews EU cooperation in the field, points to successes and sets out possible future scenarios, particularly in the context of the Erasmus+ programme (2014-2020).
